Tommy Chong's bongs on display
Los Angeles Times | Submitted by: motrinwoman
"There was something suspiciously rehearsed about the Tommy Chong art show at the new Los Angeles gallery Ghettogloss, and it wasn't simply the fact that nearly every piece could double as a bong. Even the tattooed locals appeared well-cast... When asked to explain the concept for his artwork, he said, "That's the trouble with potheads. We have a short attention span."

"Crigler-Najjar is one of dozens of rare inherited disorders that run through the plain sects of Pennsylvania. A Lancaster doctor who cares for the families has counted 38 disorders in Amish children and 23 disorders among Mennonites that are found far less often in the general population. What they don't tell you about Jesus
Guardian | Submitted by: meatload
"Although Jesus says he has come to fulfil the law and the prophets, he also speaks very differently of both. His teaching on family values, as the churches call them today, is decidedly not in favour of them... Most remarkable of all the passages not thought fit for Wayside Pulpits is Jesus's command to his disciples to go armed, contradicting his teaching of non-violence."

Boeing has made a delightful promotional film for its new generation of battle tecnhology showing an attack on a fictional Islamic city. Atlantis under Antarctica?
Pravda | Submitted by: anonymous
"After WW II, scientists started to pay close attention to the issue of a supposedly once-existing civilization in Antarctica... the director of the Istanbul National Museum, Khalil Edkhem, was sorting out a library of the Byzantine emperors in an old palace. He found an ancient map made on gazelle skin. On the map, there were the shores of western and southern Africa, as well as the northern shores of Antarctica. Khalil could not believe his eyes: the shores of the Queen Mod Land, to the south of the 70th parallel, was free of ice."

"British Damien Hirst, famed for pickling dead animals in formaldehyde, is hoping to boldly go where no artist has gone before after unveiling a tiny painting to be carried to Mars... The spot painting, which doubles as an instrument calibration chart, will be carried on the Beagle 2 spacecraft, which is scheduled to fly to Mars by December 2003. Blow for Texas anti-sodomy crusaders
Washington Post | Submitted by: Alaska Freegold
"The Supreme Court said Monday it would decide a challenge to a Texas law that makes it a crime for gays and lesbians to have consensual sex in their own homes, agreeing to consider overruling its 1986 decision that upheld state sodomy laws. The Texas "homosexual conduct" law makes it a crime to engage in "deviate sexual intercourse", defined as oral and anal sex, with another person of the same sex." Besides Texas, the other 13 states that have sodomy laws are Alabama, Florida, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah and Virginia."
